Staff turn over!!

Now this is a great judge of how a school treats their staff, well this school has lost 4 teachers in the space of 5 months. These teachers haven't been sacked or asked to leave NO they all left on their on terms.
   So this makes me wonder how long the new staff will hang around and what creative lies the management can come up with to cover this up.

A school of excellence.....

While having my 2 hour plus interview the lovely manager kept going on about the school being a "School of excellence" offering the student's the best teachers and the best school environment in Nakhon Sri Thammarat.
   The teachers were constantly reminded that their salary WAS higher than most other salaries in Nakhon Sri Thammarat, but that seems to have changed are now hiring teachers will the following:

  1. No teaching experience.
  2. Online TEFL.
So where has this centre of excellence gone? Why are they employing these type of staff? Plain and simple = Cost cutting.

Salary is now just at the average salary for Nakhon Sri Thammarat but while taking in for account the terrible working conditions at the school, it just doesn't make sense for any teacher to accept a position at this school.

Getting refunded by school.

If you need or want something for your classroom you are expcected to go and buy the materials yourself (not in school time) and also pay for those materials yourself. Okay you keep the bill and give it to the mole than wears the glasses, if lucky you might get YOUR money back within a month or unlucky 6 weeks.
    Why should it take that long to refund money? This is a main reason teachers stopped buying materials for their classroom because they simply couldn't afford to wait to get refunded by the school.
    In the real and modern world (Not a world run by a Chinese family living in Thung Song) you would go to the accountant with the bill and you would get refunded within 48 hours.

Respecting your boss!

A boss should be a person that has experience in the profession that they are managing, don't you think? Being told by a person that has had about 1/10 less contact teaching hours than you how to teach is a joke!!
  Then getting a new memeber of staff that has been teaching 3 months to help manage the programme is even more of a joke....... Experienced teachers getting told how to teach by a person that has just started teaching and has less than 3 months classroom experience :)
   This is just the way things work at this school........... your voice or experience counts for NOTHING!!

Meetings.............

How many meetings do you need a week? How long should the average meeting be? Should meetings be over 90 minutes long?

Good points!!

99% of the staff at the school are excellent, they are always willing to help and understand the problems that foreign staff go through when first arriving in Thung Song. It is a shame that the boss and the Mole that wears glasses ruin everything :)

Does the place really want foreign teachers??

Is this a question i asked myself during my time there? If you start to realise that the Thai don't really link you for 1 main reason = You make 3 to 5 times more than them = but it is the contract that we were offered and signed, but still our contracts were passed around the staffroom which created loads of unwanted gossip.
   Management gossip with Thai staff (laugh and joke as well) about how the foreign staff just cause problems and trouble and aren't worth their salary. Is this the type of management you really want to work for?

The Mole that wears glasses.

Just be careful with the mole that wears glasses, she isn't a teacher but works at ILC. Again she is someone that is nice to your face then stabs you in the back as soon as you turn around. As most people say "It starts at the top" so lack of manners and management skills she is only following her bosses example.

Bonus payment.

Would you really want to wait up to 6 months to recieve your end of year bonus payment that you worked so hard to get? Remember they are a business and they don't like paying the cash at the end of the day.

Another blog?? I heard that the teacher was sacked and then re-hired if he deleted all the old posts on his blog. As you can see there aren't any remaining posts and they have all been deleted, threats and bullying tactics again.....

Lesson plans.

For anyone that has taught before you understand the importance of a lesson plan, however at this school they deem lesson plans to be the most important part of being a teacher.
   She (the boss) likes to focus on lessons and expect do be doing between 12 - 18 page lesson plans for 5 hours of teaching.
